Sustainable Championships

The World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 is not only a sporting competition but also an opportunity to create real social, environmental and economic impact in the region.

Sustainable Championships • Info

The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region as the Host of the Championships prepared an impact and sustainability strategy aligned with the global World Athletics initiative "Athletics for a Better World" (ABW), which highlights athletics as a tool for positive change.

  2. Introducing event sustainability rules via the "Athletics for a Better World Standard" - a certification assessing environmental and social achievements and alignment with the strategy pillars.
  3. The World Athletics Air Quality project - raising awareness about air pollution impacts on athletes, recreational runners and spectators.
  4. Support for the refugee team and policies to ensure safe, welcoming environments for participants.

Why it matters

A big sports event brings excitement inside the arena - and responsibility for the place that hosts it. Plogging links outdoor activity with caring for shared space - it’s an easy way to engage locals and build positive energy around the Championships.

The action is open to everyone: walk, jog or run. It’s not about pace or performance. What matters is activity and collective effort that produces immediate, visible results.

What we do and how it works

Why?
To clean selected places together and leave the region in a better, tangible state.
How?
We meet at local collection points, get bags and gloves, follow a route and return to base.
What about results?
We aim for measurable outcomes: number of bags, waste collection and a regional summary of the action.

The reporting model is being refined to match the Sustainable Championships idea and to be clear for all participants.

What we know now and what we’ll finalise

1
There is a plan and local teams
Coordinators are active in municipalities and collection points are being prepared.
2
We will finalise points and logistics
We will update the map, meeting points, times and waste pickup rules.
3
We will summarise and publish results
After the event we will prepare a short report: where we were and what we achieved.
